An EMI (Equated Monthly Installment) is the fixed monthly payment you make to repay a loan. This free calculator shows your monthly EMI, total interest, and total payment based on the loan amount, interest rate, and tenure. It uses the standard reducing-balance formula that all Nepali banks use for home, auto, personal, and education loans.
EMI गणना सूत्र — EMI Calculation Formula
The EMI is calculated using the standard reducing-balance formula:
EMI = P × r × (1+r)n / ((1+r)n − 1)- P (Principal) — the loan amount you borrow (कर्जा रकम)
- r (Monthly Rate) — annual interest rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100 (मासिक ब्याजदर)
- n (Months) — loan tenure in months (अवधि महिनामा)

Frequently Asked Questions
EMI (Equated Monthly Installment)
How is EMI calculated?
EMI is calculated using the reducing-balance formula: EMI = P × r × (1+r)^n / ((1+r)^n − 1), where P is the principal, r is the monthly interest rate (annual rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100), and n is the number of monthly installments. This calculator does the math for you instantly.
Does a longer tenure reduce my EMI?
Yes. A longer tenure means smaller monthly EMI, but you'll pay more total interest over the life of the loan. A shorter tenure means higher EMI but less total interest. Use the calculator to compare.
Can I prepay my loan to save interest?
Yes. Most banks in Nepal allow partial or full prepayment, though some charge a prepayment penalty (typically 1–3% of the outstanding balance). Prepaying early can save significant interest, especially during the early years of the loan.
