This page shows the current foreign exchange rates for major currencies published by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the central bank of Nepal. For every currency, both the buy rate and sell rate are shown in Nepali Rupees (NPR), along with the reference date NRB published them.

किन्ने र बेच्ने दरको फरक — Understanding Buy & Sell Rates
- Buy (NPR) / किन्ने दर — the price at which banks and exchange counters buy foreign currency from you. This is the rate you get when you bring foreign cash into Nepal.
- Sell (NPR) / बेच्ने दर — the price at which banks and exchange counters sell foreign currency to you. This is the rate you pay when you need to buy foreign currency in Nepal. It is always slightly higher than the buy rate — that spread is the dealer's margin.
स्थिर र खुला बजार दर — Fixed vs Open Market Rates
Nepal Rastra Bank publishes two types of rates:
- Fixed rates / स्थिर दर — set directly by NRB for specific currencies and purposes. This applies mainly to the Indian Rupee (INR), which has a special peg with the Nepali Rupee (₹1 = रू1.60).
- Open market rates / खुला बजार दर — determined by supply and demand in the foreign exchange market. This covers most currencies like USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, AUD, CAD, and more.

Where do these exchange rates come from?
All rates are published by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the central bank of Nepal. NRB publishes updated foreign exchange rates every business day (Sunday through Friday).
What is the difference between the buy and sell rate?
The buy rate is what banks pay when buying foreign currency from you. The sell rate is what they charge when selling foreign currency to you. The sell rate is always slightly higher — that difference is the dealer's margin.
What is fixed vs open market exchange rate?
Fixed rates are set by Nepal Rastra Bank for specific currencies and purposes (mainly the Indian Rupee). Open market rates are determined by supply and demand and apply to most other currencies.
